The Flying Dutchman – our favorite cocktail from Amsterdam

Comments Off on The Flying Dutchman – our favorite cocktail from Amsterdam

“We’ve left whisky behind and moved towards the liqueur side of things”; that is what I’d say if I had to describe our development for tasty drinks. Skye screamed and wouldn’t stop jumping when we learned we were going to visit a liqueur distillery since she’s all about the sweeter stuff.

So, our Amsterdam cocktail, we actually just stumbled across when we sat down during one of our own pub crawls and got into a conversation with this guy who’s shift had just ended.

We told him all about our “thing” of pinpointing a cocktail for every place we end up in, and John (what’s in a name), told us he knew of a cocktail that was impossible not to like. We ordered one immediately and the recipe looked like a total mess with pineapple juice, crème de cassis, jenever, sugar syrup and white crème de menthe.

The end result turned out to be pretty cool though. Nice to look at, and really tasty as well. I thought it was going to be to sweet since I felt it’s just a bunch of liqueurs and juices. But the jenever takes the sweet edge off, and the balance is just off, letting you appreciate its character in the individual sips you find yourself taking; so. much. taste!
